The origin of the name Wandlitz is slavonic and means »people, who live by the water«. For this reason the coat of arms has the heraldic figure »Seeblatt« (the leave of a water lily) which can be read as heart, too. The 9 areas of the municipality, which has been formed in 2004, are represented by the 9 »teeth« who split the escutcheon.
